how to burn a blu ray disk

why would you do this?

all the same reasons that you'd burn a DVD, but way more storage space. it takes like 6 DVDs to fit She-Ra and the Princesses of Power at DVD quality, but the entire series at that quality fits on one single BluRay disk! and i don't know about you guys, but back in the VHS days my family made family videos that you could just watch like a movie. i'm renewing that tradition for a new era! it's great being able to make your own movies!

also i have sooo many videos on my phone that i don't really want to Post but still want to save them, so making a bluray is sort of exactly like making a scrapbook!!! but with videos!!!

things you'll need:

  • blu-ray writer/reader - unfortunately every time I've tried one of the ones in the $40-$50 price range, i'll burn fail disk after fail disk (or, as they said on reddit in 2011, coasters) until finally thinking to test if the drive is able to read normal storebought blurays, and discovering that no, it cannot read blurays. the advice i've scrounged up says to stick with the name brands and at least $100 price range, and to avoid the listings with long titles that don't mention a brand.
  • blank bluray disks - the rewritable ones are more expensive so i got the non-rewriteable ones with enough to spare
  • video to put onto the disk
  • software that you have to pay for. i looked really hard for a free open source software, but the only program that I could get to make test blurays that worked in my bluray player is ConvertXtoHD, and it's like $40. but it worked !! i spent Months trying different softwares! this one does exactly what i need!
  • ConvertXtoHD is very intuitive and doesn't even need a guide. once you get all these things ^ then you're really good to go!

now you can burn bluray disks! yippiee!! you can buy empty plastic disk cases online.

this page has free templates for the disk case artwork! you can just download them, unzip, and open the file with Photopea (which is freeee) in order to get artwork onto the disk itself, you have to fiddle a bit with sticker printers and whatnot. if the sticker is too thick then the disk won't be read. so i just use sharpies!
